IP Bans (are they common practice?)

So I am interesting in starting a small 3 man bot group to start farming some cash and material here and there.. Nothing to big compared to some of the crews I read about on here.

I've only been using L2 Tower to level my character so he can compete with the others as I recently came back..

My question, is IP banning a common practice for large bot groups? Do I need to worry and take the necessary precautions with a three man bot group + 2 other clients opened at the same time?

Would love to here some of the more experienced people that are running large amount of clients and have been banned before. Has anyone ever received a full IP ban?

Much appreciated!

Well lets you are running 20 clients on one IP address.. They can easily flag those accounts down...

Now if you use VPN's and use several different IP's, this will look like different users.. So not sure what you mean by "when ncsoft controls the character/account database"

RE: IP Bans (are they common practice?)

they can know the primary ip of each pc it doesnt change when you log in with proxy etc, because just like when you type ipconfig -all in dos the client also send similar info to gameserver, i dont remember exactly which packet was it, if im not wrong its the packet client send when you pick your char (last time I saw the packet that contain IP info was like 4+ years ago)
with this not only they get net ip but also the lan ip aswell so they can even know if its same pc or not.
Edit: I just checked Again its EnterWorld PacketId 11

yes they dont ban by ip, but they can reach your ip, and they would do that in case of acount hack/item scams.
regarding bans its most probably made manualy by invisible gm runing around experimenting on xping parties for responses.

IP is not being monitored at all, if your group gets banned your main is still safe, that is if its not reported.

I am just bumping this cause a friend has been blocked at character creation after getting 2 trains banned. IE he can't create characters even after he creates an account. Which suggests a hardware level ban (not so much an IP ban cause he's on a dynamic VDSL connection)

Interesting.I understand why your friend was banned. But I don't really understand why they ban players that simply just want to EXP and using some type of 3rd party software. Obviously they have the means to go in depth and check what chars you actually have.

I understand banning all the adena trains. But i would think the marketing team would realize that the ones that simply want to get a 99 character, will in turn spend money on the NCStore because they have a character to play. Yes it may be difficult to weed out exactly which ones on a individual basis. But i'm sure if the end goal will result in a "happier" community and more money for themselves they would do this.
